I am going to tell anyone who will listen that the time of reckoning is here for this country, but also for humanity. No longer can we sit on our laurels and accumulate things and debt and use up all of the world's natural resources. This lifestyle can no longer be supported. People might be finally coming out of their consumerism coma. This story on Yahoo made me think that some people may be coming to terms with our new reality. But there are still so many people complaining about the increasing price of oil, the increasing price of food, and the declining values of their homes. Well, there is no one to blame but ourselves for the current situation. The declining value of the dollar is a big factor to consider. Read about it here. And foreclosures in this country have only gotten started. It is not going to matter who is in charge in Washington. Check out this story for more information.
The reality is that we are going to have to change the way that we live. There is no more debt to borrow against. We can no longer consume without the means to support it. The big homes, the big cars, the big TVs, the designer clothes, all of the crap we thought we needed to live fulfilling lives is not necessary. The bill has come due, and people don't want to pay it. But they are not going to have a choice. The amount owed will be collected whether we like it or not, so the sooner we buckle down in this country and clean up our spend thrift ways, the sooner we can turn this country around and make it a place to be proud of and respect. Time to live up to our responsibilities.
