Trying to understand addiction
What is so great about cocaine?
Does it cure your affliction?
Take away your pain?
I plead and beg you
To try and stop
I scream and cry
But my voice cannot drown out
The sound of your needs
They pound in your head
And call out your name
It masquerades as home
How can I compete with it?
I know deep in my soul
That you will choose your addiction over me
Each day you are in deeper and deeper
It must be so dark where you are
So dark that you can no longer see
Your reality is different from mine
I do not understand your world
It is a scary, soul-less place
That I do not want to ever know
What will become of us?
Living separate lives
Not understanding how the other one feels
Two strangers with broken dreams
Where love once lived
